Activate Your UTORid, Set Up UTmail+ e-mail & Obtain Your TCard

Overview 

To access University of Toronto systems and official communications, you must activate your:

  • UTORid
  • Set up UTmail+ Account
  • Enroll in UTORMFA (multi factor authentication)

These are required for the:

Important:

You should have one UTORid only. If you studied or worked at U of T before, you may already have a UTORid; if the UTORid shown in POWER does not match one you've used, contact postgrad.med@utoronto.ca.

When to Activate Your UTORid 

Activate your UTORid and set up your UTmail+ email as soon as you receive your temporary POWER login credentials. Look for an email from postgrad.med@utoronto.ca with the subject line “LOA Sign Off.”  See steps to setting up your UTORid, UTmail + and UTORMFA below.

Step 1: Access POWER

  • You will receive (or may have already received) an email from postgrad.med@utoronto.ca with the subject line “LOA Sign Off”, which includes a  temporary PIN and password.  
  • Login into POWER using the temporary pin and password

Step 2: Locate Your UTORid & Secret Activation Key (SAK)

Once logged in, you will find your UTORid and SAK in the Intial View screen OR on the New Learner Welcome Page

  • If a UTORid appears, activate it within 30 days (your temporary PIN expires after the grace period)
  • If no UTORid is displayed, continue using your temporary PIN/password and check daily; UTORids are processed via nightly uploads. If no UTORid after ~72 hours, email postgrad.med@utoronto.ca.

Step 3: Activate Your UTORid

For New  Members to the UofT Community:

  • Go to the UTORid Management page   
  • Select ‘Activate your UTORid
  • Enter your UTORid and SAK from POWER

For Returning Members of the UofT Community:

If you’ve been issued a UTORid before, use the UTORid Management page to:

  • Verify your UTORid and password   
  • Get Information on your account (like, what is your UTORid? Or UTmail + e-mail)   
  • Reset a forgotten password or   
  • Change your password

Step 4: Set up or confirm your UTmail+ account

For New Members to the UofT community:

  • When you activate your UTORid, you will be able to set up UTORid password and UTmail+ email address.
  • Your official email will end with @mail.utoronto.ca (for example: firstname.lastname@mail.utoronto.ca)

For Returning Members to the UofT Community:

  • You can find your @mail.utoronto.ca email address by selecting ‘Get Information’ on your account on the UTORid Management page.   
  • UTmail+ accounts are only active while you are enrolled in studies. If you previously completed your studies and do not see your UTmail information on the ‘Get Information’ page, your UTmail+ account may be deactivated  
    • To reactivate your email account. You can do this on the UTORid Management by selecting ‘Reactivate current staff, faculty, or student UTmail+’ to regain full access to all UofT’s available services

Step 5: Enrol in the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

TCard (optional)

You may also choose to obtain a TCard, which may be required to access certain university facilities and resources.

How to Get Your TCard

To get a TCard, visit the TCard office during operating hours and bring your:

  • UTORid/Trainee ID number
  • Valid Government photo ID (physical unexpired government-issued ID). No photos or photocopies.

Important Notes: 

  • Your POWER confirmation of Registration letter includes your trainee ID# 
  • Hospital badges are NOT accepted as government-issued photo ID 
  • Documents must match the information in U of T’s record system
