Dr. Jamal Depradine is appointed to the role of Faculty Lead, Black Health, PGME effective July 1, 2024. The PGME Faculty Lead, Black Health is responsible for providing lived experience, social and content expertise and guidance in PGME, including facilitating postgraduate physician learning which will support and optimize health care for Black people living in Canada. 

The Faculty Lead is responsible for assisting with core curriculum planning, development, delivery, and evaluation across PGME programs, and supporting PGME residency and fellowship programs with integration of Black Health curricular content development. They will advise on optimal admission processes to facilitate equitable representation of Black trainees entering residency and fellowship programs and will ensure that Black residents and fellows are supported appropriately in their career planning and development to allow for equitable access to opportunities during residency and fellowship such as mentorship, leadership training and advancement. 

Dr. Jamal Depradine is a Lecturer in the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine and a Staff Geriatrician at the University Health Network – West Park Healthcare Centre. Dr. Depradine completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of Toronto where he was a LEAD scholar from 2013-2016. Dr. Depradine completed post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Ottawa; he is a former Chief Geriatric Resident at The Ottawa Hospital. Dr. Depradine earned a graduate degree from the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in Management of Innovation (MMI) and has held positions as a Research Analyst with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and Planning Analyst with Cancer Care Ontario. Dr. Depradine currently serves as the Chair of the Geriatric Steering Committee and Physician Lead for the Geriatric Medicine Program at West Park. Dr. Depradine has a passion for collaborative learning and program development. He is now proud to begin his role as the PGME Black Health Faculty Lead.
