Accreditation Updates

Accreditation is part of a continuous improvement process for both our accredited programs and our PGME Institution. Since the accreditation survey visit in November 2020, we have been working on addressing the areas for improvement identified, continuing to onboard programs to CBD, and preparing for accreditation follow-up activities that will take place in November 2023. As part of our PG institution continuous improvement process, we have been focusing on the onboarding experience for learners, pathways for learners to report mistreatment, access to Wi-Fi for learners at our hospital sites, and teacher feedback and assessment systems. Our Action Plan Outcome Report (APOR) on these themes will be submitted to the Canadian Residency Accreditation Consortium (CanRAC) in November 2023.

Highlights of the some of the changes made in our systems include:

• Reduced repetitive onboarding requirements by agreeing on nine common onboarding modules that learners complete in POWER which are applicable to all sites
• Development of the Best Practices in PG Learner Onboarding Document
• Development of the Learner Mistreatment Guidelines with reporting, discussing, and disclosing pathways through the Learner Experience Unit in the Office of Learner Affairs
• Implementation of a harmonized Learner Assessment of Clinical Teaching (LACT) form for learners across the medical education continuum and a reporting system that aggregates the LACT forms annually to create clinical teaching assessment reports with feedback from more learners and increased confidentiality for individual learners
• Dissemination of a Quick Reference Guide for learners with information on how to access Wi-Fi, available healthy food options, and the locations of lactation spaces, mulit-faith prayer rooms, and secure food drop of areas at each affiliate site

We would like to thank all of our programs including, Program Directors, Program Administrators, Residency Program Committees, Department Leads, Faculty, and Learners for the work that they have been doing not only to improve their own program’s but also for their input and collaboration to improve our broader university and hospital systems as part of ongoing continuous improvement efforts.
