Update Regarding the Royal College CBD Adaptations

The PGME Post

As you are aware, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada has embarked on a process to address implementation concerns noted locally and nationally since the launch of Competence by Design in 2017.  After over a year of consultation with key stakeholders, the Royal College published the CBD Adaptations Plan (also referred to as CBD 2.0), outlining specific goals and interventions for CBD implementation, which is organized around five key priority issues.

The Royal College has reaffirmed its commitment to Competence by Design, while recognizing and encouraging a working partnership with responsibilities to be shared by the Royal College, their Specialty Committees, Postgraduate offices and individual postgraduate training programs.

The CBD Adaptations SharePoint folder contains key CBD Adaptations documents, including:

  • the Royal College’s CBD Adaptations Executive Summary

  • the Royal College’s Detailed CBD Adaptations Workplan

  • Informational PowerPoint presentations catered toward Faculty, Education Leadership and Residents

  • U of T Continuous Quality Improvement Process for Implementing CBD Adaptations

  • U of T CBD Adaptations Communications – Update, PG Post (Nov 2024), and Town Hall Presentation (June 2024)

This folder will be updated going forward as new information comes forward. It is anticipated that the information can be used by your divisions and/or departments for faculty and resident updates.

We welcome comments and feedback, and hope that the revised principles will allow your program(s) to tailor CBD in a way that continues to meet the requirements for national standardization and accountability while still providing increased flexibility to meet the needs of your department/division.
