As autumn arrives, we’re in the midst of a new academic year, welcoming fresh opportunities for our fellows. We recently hosted a reception to greet our new fellows, the evening saw an impressive turnout, with over 100 new fellows in attendance. We hope to host this event twice a year, accommodating those who start in July and January in 2024.
Throughout the year, we look forward to collaborating with our community of fellows, Fellowship Directors (FDs), and the Fellowship Education Advisory Committee (FEAC). Together, we’ll work on projects to enhance the fellow experience and provide tools for program success. We’re also hosting a strategic retreat for fellowship directors, FEAC members, to discuss best practices.
Many programs are currently vetting applicants, and we encourage reflection on the candidate selection process. We urge each program to contemplate the candidate selection process and consider the recommendations set forth in the “Best Practices in Admissions & Selections, Final Report” published in 2013. Throughout the year, we will establish a working group dedicated to customizing these recommendations for fellowship programs and creating an implementation pilot. Our objective is to provide fellowship directors and their selection committees with the necessary tools to ensure that selection processes are fair, transparent, and offer equal opportunities to applicants from diverse backgrounds, serving the needs of global communities.
