CaRMS R-1 Main Residency Match Results

On March 19  the full results from the first iteration of the 2024 Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) R-1 Main Residency Match were received. Over 95 per cent of our MD students matched and 99 per cent of our Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) residency positions were filled in this first round.

Congratulations to the students who matched in this CaRMS round as well as those students who matched to residency programs outside of Canada. We are also committed to our students who did not match in this first round. We will continue to provide resources to prepare them for the second match or an alternative pathway of their choice.

Our PGME programs were the first choice of MD students from many provinces again this year. Moreover, just over half of the U of T MD students matched to PGME programs at U of T, reflecting their strong interest in residency training in Toronto. We are proud of our PGME programs and will be pleased to welcome all students into our residency positions. We are also excited about the learning opportunities many MD Program students will enjoy in diverse sites across the country.
