Important Notes

  • Use your training site or home program office address for your CPSO license.
  • Update your CPSO contact info if you previously listed the UofT PGME Office to prevent misdirected communications

Do not begin medical practice or training until you receive official confirmation from CPSO. Practicing without registration is an offence under the Regulated Health Professions Act.

2 MONTHS PRIOR TO TRAINING START DATE

  • Begin the registration process with Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
    • Your CMPA coverage start date MUST align with your training start date in POWER. For example, if your training begins on July 1, 2024, your CMPA coverage must also start on July 1, 2024, even if your first hospital shift is scheduled for a later date.
    • If you previously held CMPA coverage through a postgraduate appointment at another Canadian institution, you must contact CMPA to update your coverage to PGME at the University of Toronto to ensure it remains active.
    • CMPA sends daily data updates to PGME which may take up to 48 hours for your coverage to be reflected in your POWER account
  • Ensure you have activated your UTORid
  • Begin completing the Hospital Health and Safety Policy Modules 1 through 7 in POWER

📅 DEADLINE: Pay the 2025-2026 Registration Fee - $980.00 CND (non-refundable)

  • Payment can be made only after completing all required registration steps.
  • Payments can be made via: Visa, MasterCard or American Express in POWER under the ‘Payment’ tab
  • If your appointment is less than a full year, your fee will be prorated (e.g., July to September)

CONFIRM REGISTRATION COMPLETED

  • Check POWER Messages on your Initial View Screen– You are fully registered if you see:

“Your registration is complete.  Please select ‘Reg. Confirmation’ on the POWER menu. You will be able to print your Registration Confirmation, please ensure you select the correct training session. The registration confirmation may be needed by your hospital teaching site, U of T libraries or TCard office.”
  • A Confirmation of Registration Letter can only be printed once all registration requirements are marked as complete in POWER. CPSO, CMPA, or any other requirements cannot be waived for this

Please note that after completing PGME registration, learners must also register with their training hospital and meet hospital-specific deadlines. Early PGME registration submission ensures all necessary steps are completed on time to start training.
